MESA, Ariz. -- The rain may have delayed manager Joe Maddon’s latest antics on Saturday, but 108 days after the Cubs ended 108 years of misery, he and chairman Tom Ricketts addressed the team as they do every year at this point in the spring. While Maddon didn’t give any hints as to what his surprise would be on Monday, he telegraphed the message of speech a bit when he tested out some of his potential slogans for 2017 a few days ago.

The team gathering was held in the theater at the facility, where they showed clips from their ninth-inning comeback in Game 4 of the National League Division Series against the San Francisco Giants, the final game of the NLCS – which Maddon said.
