Reports of Jon Lester’s demise appear to be premature.
Lester’s last start before the All-Star break was one to forget. In just 2/3 of an inning of work, Lester was rocked by the Pittsburgh Pirates for 10 runs as the Cubs headed home for a few days on a heavy down note.
While it was perfectly reasonable to be skeptical of the Cubs' overall play at that point, it was a little strange to see people starting to panic about Lester.
“That’s what all you guys do nowadays,”John Lackey, Lester’s friend and teammate of five seasons, said with a hearty laugh.
