The big news today is that the Cubs promoted top pitching prospect Cade Horton to Triple-A. In four starts for the Smokies this year, Horton has pitched 16.1 innings and has posted an ERA of 1.10. He’s struck out 18 batters and walked just two. Horton made eight starts last year in Double-A, six in the regular season and two in the postseason, and had a combined ERA of 1.22.
In other moves, Iowa infielder David Bote was activated off the injured list, as was Myrtle Beach catcher Miguel Pabon. Catcher/first baseman Carter Trice went from Myrtle Beach to Mesa.
