Two weeks do not make a baseball season by any means. However, I chuckle every time I hear someone say that the Cubs didn’t really do anything in the offseason. Certainly, running it back with a team that didn’t reach the playoffs and hoping that internal growth seems like a silly plan. That said, there were a lot of reasons to believe that Seiya Suzuki, Nico Hoerner and Justin Steele were all ascending stars in various stages of development. Adbert Alzolay might be unfairly left off of that list. Ian Happ and Dansby Swanson are already stars in this league, even if Happ is fairly underappreciated by Cubs fans.
