Gar Forman called the Hoiberg hire a ‘perfect fit.’ Thibodeau was much better.

Tom Thibodeau and Fred Hoiberg are polar opposites in many respects.

Personalities aside, Thibodeau had far more success coaching the Bulls than Hoiberg has at this juncture, as his .625 regular season winning percentage over five years in Chicago and 2011 Coach of the Year award indicate. But aside from the number of games that each has won, they both have vastly different philosophies on how to coach the Bulls.

When Thibodeau was dismissed, it was difficult to discount his talent as a coach (as much as management tried). The hard sell to the fanbase was instead that Thibodeau wasn’t the right style of coach for this team, that he had burned out his players, and that the Bulls needed a different approach to get the team to the next level.
