Bobby Portis exits sophomore season with much left to prove

As the Bulls’ 2017 offseason continues, we’ll be reviewing each player’s performance during the 2016-17 season. Next up is second-year power forward Bobby Portis.

2016-17 stats: 64 games, 15.6 minutes per game, 6.8 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game, 48.8 field-goal percentage, 33.3 3-point percentage.

Contract status: Portis has two years remaining on his rookie contract, which will pay him $1.5 million in 2017-18 and $2.5 million in 2018-19. He will be a restricted free agent in the summer of 2019.

Year in review

Like most of the young Bulls, Portis was wildly inconsistent in his second season as he bounced around from a backup role to out of the rotation to a brief stint in the starting lineup and then back to the bench.
