Blackhawks reacquire defenseman Johnny Oduya

The Blackhawks are welcoming back an old friend again.

The Blackhawks acquired defenseman Johnny Oduya, 35, from the Dallas Stars for prospect Mark McNeill and a conditional 2018 fourth-round draft pick.

The Blackhawks first acquired Oduya at the trade deadline in 2012. He played three-plus seasons with the Blackhawks and was part of their 2013 and 2015 Stanley Cup championship teams.

Oduya considered returning to the Blackhawks after his contract expired following the 2014-15 season, but ended up signing with the Stars for a two-year, $7.5 million contract. He will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.
