Matt Forte is pain-free, but swelling persists in sprained knee

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Bears running back Matt Forte (MCL sprain) said he failed to practice on Thursday because the club moved the workout inside to the Walter Payton Center because of dangerous wind conditions.

Forte lack of participation initially raised eyebrows because the veteran tailback was listed as limited on Wednesday.

“We went inside on the turf and that wouldn’t be beneficial right now,” Forte said. “I’m taking it day-by-day, but yesterday went well outside during individual. [I was] running routes, catching, doing stuff regularly and didn’t have any pain or stuff like that. I just need to basically get the swelling out of my knee.
