Police reportedly were called to McDonald’s home at 3:48 a.m. But he had left the scene and was arrested at the home of former 49ers teammate Justin Smith after being accused of physically assaulting a woman who was holding a baby.

McDonald spent the first eight seasons of his NFL career with the 49ers before being released last December following the second of two off-the-field incidents in five months.
