Charlotte, N.C. - Preston Popp's golden goal lifts the 14th-ranked Charlotte 49ers (13-3-1), 1-0, over the UAB Blazers (6-9-3) in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament Wednesday night at Transamerica Field.
"UAB made it really tough for us tonight," said Charlotte 49ers head coach Kevin Langan. "It was just one of those nights where the final ball was lacking. It was a wonderful finish from Preston (Popp). We love playing here, we love this group of guys, and we just want to keep playing as many games as possible together."
The beginning of the first half belonged to the 49ers, as the hosts recorded seven shots in the opening 15 minutes of the game.
