HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – A dominant performance from senior running back Kalif Phillips and a second-half shutout by the defense led to a heartwarming and historic victory for Charlotte football Saturday, downing league foe Marshall 27-24 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington, W.Va.
The Niners picked up their second Conference USA win in program history, improving to 3-5 on the year and 2-2 in the league. Redshirt senior Jamal Covington delivered the well-earned game ball to Jenni Ratliff, wife of late coach Phil Ratliff, a former standout player and coach for the Herd before taking over as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the 49ers when they started their program in 2012.
