The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams opened up the road portion of their 2016-17 schedule at the Kent State Golden Gala on Friday at the Kent State Field House.
Junior Sam Merriman turned in the Spartans top performance of the day, finishing third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15.19.72.
Sophomore Tyler Bushman also competed for the men on the first day of the Golden Gala, finishing 23rd in the weight throw with a mark of 12.22 meters.
Senior Temi Omilabu led the Spartan women with a ninth-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 15.
