CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Tony Heath laughed as he recalled all the groomsmen wearing superhero socks when Carolina Panthers running back Fozzy Whittaker was married in April.
"Captain America" socks.
"Hulk" socks.
"Batman" socks.
You get the picture.
But Heath, Whittaker's football coach at Pearland (Texas) High School, wasn't surprised. Whittaker has been a fan of Marvel Comics, particularly of "Captain America," for as long as Heath has known him.
There were days Whittaker would come to school wearing a "Captain America" T-shirt and carrying his books in a "Captain America" backpack.
