Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton went to Charleston, where five days earlier nine people were shot and killed by a 21-year-old gunman at Emmanuel African Episcopal Church, and visited families of the victims.
Rashard Alston, a linebacker at Newberry College, posted a photo to his Instagram account that showed him with Newton and Chris Singleton. Singleton, who plays baseball at Charleston Southern, lost his mother, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton.
