Rangers keep season alive with dramatic OT win over Caps

NEW YORK - In most dramatic fashion, the New York Rangers kept their season alive Friday night at Madison Square Garden.

Captain Ryan McDonagh took a drop pass from Derek Stepan and fired a shot from the high slot that went off the bar and in at 9:37 of overtime, lifting the Rangers to a 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals.

The Caps lead in the second-round series is now 3-2, as the venue switches to Washington for Game 6 Sunday night.

But McDonagh’s OT winner didn’t start the drama, it merely ended it.

No, the dramatics began late in the third period.
