Flames trade picks for Coyotes defenceman Michael Stone

A former standout for the Western Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen, Michael Stone will once again bring his booming slapshot to the Saddledome.

Postmedia’s Eric Francis has confirmed that the Flames have acquired the 26-year-old defenceman from the Arizona Coyotes for a package of draft picks — a third-round holler in the 2017 NHL Draft and a conditional fifth-rounder in 2018.

The Flames will only surrender the conditional selection if Stone re-signs in Calgary. The Coyotes will reportedly pay half of his salary — Stone is earning US$4-million on a one-year deal — for the remainder of this season.
