The Calgary Flames are awaiting test results to determine if first-line forward Micheal Ferland has mumps.

The team announced Sunday afternoon the 24-year-old was “under observation” for the highly contagious illness.

Ferland was unavailable for a key clash against the Los Angeles Kings at the Saddledome and until the test results are returned, won’t be around the rink.

“We’ll probably know in the next day or so,” said Flames general manager Brad Treliving. “When you start not feeling well, start to show some symptoms, then you have to push pause and make sure that gets checked out.
