There was only one bigger name amongst defencemen available at the trade deadline than Michael Stone.
But with apologies to Kevin Shattenkirk, no one on the rental market is a better fit for the Calgary Flames than the 26-year-old with strong Calgary ties.
Not only did Flames general manager Brad Treliving work with the 26-year-old as a longtime assistant GM in Arizona, Stone also spent four productive years at the Saddledome when he was a WHL stud for the Calgary Hitmen.
Such familiarity made him a perfect acquisition to fill the biggest void on the Flames roster – a fourth defenceman.
