Flames snaps -- Wotherspoon has small numbers attending hometown game in Vancouver

VANCOUVER – For a guy playing an NHL playoff game in his hometown for the first time of his young career, Tyler Wotherspoon had an awfully small personal cheering section.

As the Calgary Flames defenceman readied to suit up for his team's opening-round Stanley Cup tournament clash with the Vancouver Canucks Thursday night, it was with the expectation his fan club consisted of his paternal grandparents and older sister, Kara.

That's because Wotherspoon's parents were in Switzerland watching his younger brother, Parker, patrol the blueline for Canada at the Under-18 world championships.

“Yeah, it's sad, but it's a great experience for them to go over there and watch my brother play overseas,” Wotherspoon said as he prepared to face the Canucks in Game 5.
