The Chemical Engineering PhD (‘85) wins half of the 2018 Nobel Prize “for the directed evolution of enzymes”.

The list just keeps on growing bigger. Francis Hamilton Arnold becomes the 106th Nobel Laureate affiliated with the University of California, Berkeley earlier today when she was announced along side George P. Smith and Sir Gregory P. Winter as the winners of the 2018 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. She is the 2nd Nobel Laureate announced thus far this week to be affiliated with Cal after James P. Allison earned a share of prize in Physiology/Medicine for the work done in Berkeley last decade.
