Cal football expected to add Tim DeRuyter as defensive coordinator

New Cal head coach Justin Wilcox’s coaching staff continues to grow, as former Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter is expected to be the Bears’ new defensive coordinator, according to FOX Sports.

DeRuyter was the defensive coordinator for Air Force from 2007-09 and at Texas A&M in 2011 before going 31-30 with the Bulldogs. He immensely improved the Aggies’ defense, which ranked No. 105 nationally and allowed 33.5 points per game before his arrival. At Air Force, he turned a 79th-ranked defense into an 11th-ranked one by his departure in 2009.

In addition to DeRuyter’s expected addition to the Cal coaching staff, it was announced Monday that former NFL quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo will be the Bears’ new passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach and former NFL safety Gerald Alexander will be their new defensive backs coach.
