Utah County driver dies after hitting a patch of black ice, vaulting over a cable divider and colliding with a semi

A Utah County man died Friday morning after he hit a patch of black ice on Interstate 15, vaulted over the cable divider and collided with a semi.

The man, who is in his 50s, was driving north at mile marker 253 in Spanish Fork just before 6 a.m. when he lost control of his pickup truck, according to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Todd Royce. The man hit the cable barrier that divides northbound and southbound lanes, vaulted over and landed in southbound lanes, where he was hit by a semi.

A medical helicopter responded to the crash, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, Royce said.
