Police are asking people in Herriman near 13300 South and 7300 West to “shelter in place” — a basement, if possible — as a SWAT team moved in to confront an armed man Wednesday afternoon.

The man was breaking out windows with a rifle at 13351 S. 7300 West, where a shed was on fire, Unified police tweeted just before 12:30 p.m.

The tweet did not specify whether the man was shooting at the windows or swinging the rifle at the windows to break them.

Police said the man had possibly barricaded himself and asked people in surrounding areas to seek shelter where they were, preferably in a basement.
