‘Kind of a mystery’: Weber High evacuated after students report nausea, headaches and dizziness — though HAZMAT responders find no clear cause

Weber High School was evacuated Monday morning and classes were canceled after five students reported feeling suddenly sick.

The students were in an anatomy class when, district spokesman Lane Findlay said, they told their teacher they were experiencing extreme headaches, dizziness and nausea. Two were transported to a hospital around 11 a.m.

The class left the room and school administrators then evacuated the entire building as a precaution. The fire department set up medical evaluation centers outside and another 57 students and staff reported similar symptoms, Findlay said.

A HAZMAT team searched the building and found no clear cause — such as a chemical leak — for the illnesses.
