Dyche must make do with threadbare Burnley squad in absence of Defour

Confirmation that Steven Defour will miss Saturday's game against Everton at Turf Moor is not a surprise after he limped out of a 3-1 loss at Southampton shortly before half-time last weekend, but it is still a major blow.

Defour has established himself as arguably the key player in Sean Dyche's side after joining for what was then a club-record fee of £8 million from Anderlecht in the transfer window.

The Belgium international, who has been recalled to the international setup under Roberto Martinez since his switch to the Premier League, settled immediately as the heartbeat of the Burnley midfield and he will be badly missed, although Dyche has stressed that the injury is not serious.
