Andre Gray gets backing from Burnley manager Sean Dyche over the vile homophobic tweets from 2012 that saw the striker banned for four games

Burnley boss Sean Dyche is standing by Andre Gray over the historic homophobic tweets that saw the striker banned for four games last Friday.

After Gray scored in the 2-0 win over Liverpool last month, posts from his Twitter account posted in 2012 were widely shared, including one that read: 'Is it me or are there gays everywhere? #Burn #Die #Makesmesick'.

The Burnley boss has accepted Gray is the 'wholly different person' who does 'not hold the beliefs written in those tweets whatsoever' as described in the player's own apologetic statement on the matter.

Gray's apology and the length of time since the tweets were posted were not enough to prevent the FA finding Gray guilty of six aggravated breaches of FA Rule E3(1) on Friday and giving him a four-game suspension.
