Buffalo Sabres Give Bailey, Catenacci A Chance

In a surprising move, the Buffalo Sabres recalled forward Justin Bailey from the AHL’s Rochester Americans on Wednesday.

It’s Bailey’s first NHL recall, and he’s expected to make his NHL debut Thursday night when the Sabres visit the Philadelphia Flyers.

With the recall came a corresponding move in which the Buffalo Sabres placed Zemgus Girgensons on injured reserve, a necessary move to free a roster spot.

Bailey’s first-ever recall comes just a few short days after the Buffalo Sabres recalled Dan Catenacci for his first NHL stint.

Those are two pretty interesting moves for the Sabres, giving two as-yet-unproven players their first tastes of the NHL, all the meanwhile leaving players like Cal O’Reilly, Phil Varone and Jerry D’Amigo – all of whom have NHL experience – in the American Hockey League for the time being.
