Nets coach: Third-quarter woes an ‘energy’ problem

MILWAUKEE — There’s something about the third quarter that brings out the worst in the Nets. Or more accurately, brings their worst to the surface.

Brooklyn has been outscored by 7.6 points in the third quarter this season, the worst margin in any period in the entire NBA. They were even worse than that Thursday night at Barclays Center, hammered by the Bucks 38-27 in the third to turn a one-point nail biter into a 12-point deficit.

“I think it’s more our energy, our engagement,’’ coach Kenny Atkinson said. “But we’re going to have to start looking at what we can do differently there with our guts, whether it’s different lineups.
