Mystery around Hollis-Jefferson leaves Nets’ defense in flux

Nets rookie Rondae Hollis-Jefferson missed Sunday’s loss to Golden State with a sprained right ankle suffered Saturday in practice; and in an inauspicious sign, he left the locker room after the game on crutches.

The starting shooting guard was not available for comment and no further update was given. But considering he’s been the Nets’ best defensive player — he leads all NBA rookies in steals — losing him for any extended period of time could have an impact.

“I have no idea [when he’ll be back]. I don’t even think that way,’’ coach Lionel Hollins said.
