Isaiah Whitehead’s ornate intro shows what he means to Nets

It was a press conference befitting a free-agent signing or a first-round draft pick.

There were Isaiah Whitehead No. 15 jerseys, an appearance by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, and a large media presence at the Nets team store on the Coney Island boardwalk Tuesday afternoon. Members of Lincoln High school’s basketball team — Whitehead’s alma mater — also were part of the celebration, joined by his friends and family members.

Clearly, the Nets aren’t treating Whitehead, the former Seton Hall star they took 42nd in Thursday’s NBA draft, like an ordinary second-round pick.

“This is a little different,” coach Kenny Atkinson said.
