Sam Travis adds right-handed potential to Red Sox lineup

Sam Travis was just about to fall asleep Monday night when his phone rang.

Get some rest, kid. When you wake up, you’ll be a big leaguer.

“I was up for a few more hours,” Travis said.

The Red Sox' most advanced hitting prospect has been called up from Triple-A Pawtucket. While he’s on the bench for tonight’s series opener against Texas, Travis will likely make his first big league start tomorrow against lefty Martin Perez.

“There’s some momentum with Travis,” manager John Farrell said. “The fact is, we’re probably looking at four left-handed starters over these next four series.
