Foot soreness no longer bothering Ortiz

BALTIMORE -- Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz returned to the lineup Monday after sitting out Sunday's series finale against the Blue Jays due to soreness in his left foot.

"He fouled a ball off that area [of his foot] on the homestand," manager John Farrell said of Ortiz, who was also recently hit by a pitch. "You take a couple of hard shots to it, it's going to create some soreness. It feels good enough to go today."

Ortiz, Boston's leader with 13 home runs and 46 RBIs entering its opener vs. the Orioles, was scratched just 30 minutes prior to its 5-3, 11-inning win due to lingering pain.
