Shane Victorino is paying the price for his attempt at making a miraculous catch to steal a home run away from the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.
The 34-year-old was originally in the Red Sox' lineup for the Saturday afternoon game but was a late scratch with sore ribs, likely the result of a violent collision he made with the right field wall. Victorino ran full-speed into a leaping attempt to catch a home run by Caleb Joseph and his ribs took the brunt of the impact as his reaching glove came up just short.
“When he hit the wall, he made a great effort to try to bring back a home run," Sox manager John Farrell said.
