Red Sox News: Will Middlebrooks starts rehab assignment Monday

In tonight's edition of Red Sox news, Boston Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks will begin a rehab assignment in Triple A Pawtucket on Monday as he works his way back from a strained right calf muscle.

According to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe, "the tentative plan is for Middlebrooks for play for the Paw Sox on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday before being evaluated again."

"The Red Sox start a three-game series at Toronto on Friday. Middlebrooks is 14 of 43 (.326) in 11 career games at the Rogers Centre with four doubles, four home runs and six RBIs."

With Abraham's potential insinuation that the Boston Red Sox are targeting next weekend as the return date for Middlebrooks, the Sox third baseman needs to make sure he's ready for the long haul before anything is finalized: “I need to run at game speed, but I’m feeling good,” Middlebrooks states in the piece.

“Hopefully I’m just there a few days and I’ll be ready to come back. It’s been too long already.”
