Good fortune smiles on Celtics with No. 1 pick

No one would dare admit it, but given the choice between winning Monday’s Game 7 of the conference semifinals against Washington, beginning Game 1 of the conference finals tonight against Cleveland, and last night winning the top pick in the NBA Lottery for the first time in franchise history, there’s really no disputing what event is most important in the welfare of the Celtics.

Thanks to the ping-pong ball combination of 7-1-9-10 — Danny Ainge called that number information for geeks last night — the Celtics have the first No. 1 pick in franchise history since the 1950 selection of Chuck Share, who never played for the team.
