Cowboys Training Camp Preview: Top Position Battles And Players To Watch

Dallas Cowboys training camp starts this week & there are numerous players fighting for roster spots on the Cowboys’ 53-man roster. This means there are going to be a handful of position battles and players to watch out for over the next month, including the backup QB position battle between Cooper Rush & Mike White. Cooper Rush had a breakout preseason two years ago but didn’t look the part last year, so Mike White could very well win the job.

Tony Pollard is a player Cowboys fans are excited to watch because he is an offensive weapon that can play RB & lineup as slot WR. How will the Cowboys take advantage of his skillset? Speaking of WRs, the Cowboys have a crowded receiving corps & they will likely only keep 5 wide receivers on the final roster. Will Tavon Austin make the cut or will he be replaced? Can fan favorites such as Cedrick Wilson, Noah Brown & Jon’Vea Johnson find a way to make the Cowboys roster? At tight end, Cowboys Nation is excited to see Jason Witten back in action. How will Mr. Reliable look after taking a year off? Players & coaches are raving about Witten.

On the defensive side of the ball, Dallas has a tough decision to make in regards to which defensive ends they want to keep on the roster. Is it going to be a make-or-break camp for Taco Charlton? Can Joe Jackson or Dorance Armstrong jump up the Cowboys depth chart? Another player to keep an eye on is Jourdan Lewis. He is a former third round pick who had immense talent coming out of the NFL draft. The Cowboys are loaded at DB & it will be a close call to see who wins the starting spot as the slot corner. Will it be Anthony Brown or Jourdan Lewis?

What’s the status at strong safety? Jeff Heath has been rumored to be on the hot seat this offseason & the Cowboys signed veteran safety George Iloka to compete with Heath for the starting safety spot. Which player will line up next to Xavier Woods in 2019? Finally, Brett Maher created a love-hate relationship with the Dallas Cowboys. His inconsistency created doubt in the minds of Cowboys fans but he has been known to come up clutch when it counts the most. Will Brett Maher impress enough this offseason to keep his starting spot?
