The NFL offseason is in full swing and there are a ton of news and rumors buzzing around the league, especially regarding the futures of several big-name veterans. Here are the latest news & rumors you need to know from around the NFL:
Dolphins expected to part with Ndamukong Suh
The Miami Dolphins made defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh one of the highest-paid players in the league when they signed him to a six-year, $114 million deal in 2015, but his time with the team appears to be coming to an end.
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports that the Dolphins are expected to part with Suh this offseason.
Confidants of owner Stephen Ross told me during the season that the owner was ready to move on from defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, set to count a staggering $26 million against the cap. Does he have a change of heart now? Are the Dolphins buyers, or more like sellers? Teams have been interested in acquiring veteran pass rusher Cam Wake for years. I’d expect other teams to feel out the Dolphins at the combine. Maybe Miami rides things out, staying largely status quo, but if they don’t they could be at the nexus of several big transactions.
Suh had 47 tackles with 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles last season.
Larry Fitzgerald will play in 2018
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who was contemplating retirement, has told the team that he will be back for the 2018 season.
"Funny you ask that question," new head coach Steve Wilks said on Thursday. "I spoke with Larry last night, and it's a very exciting time for all of us, to all the Arizona Cardinals fans around the world, it's exciting that Larry mentioned to me last night he is coming back for the 2018 season."
"Personally, I felt honored," Wilks said in hearing Fitzgerald's decision. "To know that he's really committed to come back where we are standing right now. Of course we don't have a quarterback on the roster. It just shows you about his character and the kind of person he is. He's going to be a difference-maker for us next season. And we are working hard to rectify the quarterback situation."
Fitzgerald, who will be 35 at the start of the 2018 season, caught a franchise-record 109 passes for 1,156 yards and six touchdowns last year. He only needs 92 more catches and 390 more yards to move in the second place on the NFL's all-time list in both categories.
Sebastian Janikowski plans to keep playing
The Oakland Raiders told kicker Sebastian Janikowski that he won't be back with the team after 18 years, but he has no plans to retire, according to agent Paul Healy.
“He plans on getting another job,” Healy said, via Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “Unfortunately, he had this back issue. He’s healthy now, and he’s ready to go.”
Janikowski, who missed the entire 2017 season with a back injury, went 29/35 on field goals last season and missed two extra points in 2016.
