Smart move for Oklahoma State: Throw the ball to James Washington

Through the first two weeks of the season, Oklahoma State was underutilizing its top offensive weapon, junior wide receiver James Washington. That changed last week, a smart move for the Pokes.

In a Week 2 loss to Central Michigan, the Cowboys targeted Washington 11 times, a solid number for an average receiver. But Washington is no average receiver. And by comparison, Oklahoma State threw the ball to slot receiver Jalen McCleskey 16 times. Washington finished with just five catches for 69 yards. And in part as a result, the Cowboys failed to generate any flow offensively and struggled to deliver the big passing plays that have become the calling card of the offense with Mason Rudolph at quarterback.
