Ray McDonald, a former Chicago Bears defensive end, is the most recent face of a domestic violence trend that has festered within the NFL.

On Monday, after being arrested in Santa Clarita, Calif. on the suspicion of child endangerment and domestic violence, McDonald was released from his $1.05 million yearlong contract with the Bears.

“We believe in second chances, but when we signed Ray we were very clear what our expectations were if he was to remain a Bear,” said general manager Ryan Pace about the release.
