Right-hander Alex Cobb is scheduled to make his 2019 exhibition debut against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday in the home half of a split-squad doubleheader. The Orioles play the New York Yankees in the second game at Legends Field.
Manager Brandon Hyde has taken it slow with Cobb, fellow veteran starter Andrew Cashner and Dylan Bundy, based on conversations with both pitchers over the past 2½ weeks.
“We talked to them about how much rest they want … the amount of days in between, especially early on, then we’ll kind of get them in their five-day rotation as we go along,’’ Hyde said.
