Orioles recall Steve Clevenger from Triple-A Norfolk

The Orioles recalled catcher Steve Clevenger and designated catcher Ryan Lavarnway for assignment before Tuesday’s game against the Houston Astros.

Clevenger, a Pigtown native and Mount Saint Joseph graduate, was hitting .352 with a .413 on-base percentage and .451 slugging percentage with two homers and 14 RBIs in 27 games at Triple-A Norfolk.

The move to recall Clevenger comes on the same day that All-Star and Gold Glove backstop Matt Wieters begins his minor league rehab assignment at Double-A Bowie tonight.

Wieters, who has been recovering from Tommy John elbow surgery performed last June, is eligible to come off the disabled list on June 4.
