Orioles bench coach John Russell will manage the Orioles for their game against the Boston Red Sox tonight — at least until Buck Showalter returns from a Saturday memorial service in Nashville, Tenn.
Showalter’s father-in-law, Phil McMahan, died of cancer April 9. The manager and his wife, Angela, are expected to fly back at some point tonight, but those plans are fluid.
“It’s an emotional time for Angela, and I think, if I know Buck, it’s going to be Angela’s call and Angela’s day. If he gets back, he gets back,” Russell said.
