FISHERS, Ind. -- Michael Makris, a rising senior on the Ball State men's golf team, polished off a wire-to-wire victory Thursday afternoon at the 117th Indiana Amateur Championship.

Makris posted a four-day total of 5-under par 283 (69-70-70-74) at The Hawthorns Golf & Country Club. He finished three shots clear of Brett Widner, the only other player in red figures for the event.

The South Bend product took control of the tournament from the get-go with his 3-under 69 in Monday's opening round. He never trailed from there. Widner drew even with him three holes into the final round, but Makris responded by playing the next eight holes in 4 under par to regain control.
