Lance Stroll will make his Formula One debut at the Australian Grand Prix with a five-place grid penalty after Williams were forced to change the gearbox on his car following final practice.
Stroll was on a qualifying simulation run when he lost the rear of his Williams on the exit of Turn 10 and clouted the wall. He damaged the front and rear suspension on the right-hand side of the car as well as the gearbox, rear end assembly and front wing.
Under Formula One's regulations, gearboxes have to last six consecutive events (starting on FP3 each race weekend) and any unscheduled change results in a five-place gearbox penalty.
