Kimi Raikkonen quickest as Mercedes finally hits trouble

BARCELONA, Spain -- Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari ended the first winter test top of the timing screens on a day which saw a wet-weather test and Mercedes encounter a rare morning of trouble.

The day saw two spells of a fully-wet track -- first in the morning after water tanks had sprayed the track overnight, the second after the one-hour lunch break was used to soak the tarmac again. The job required 250,000 litres of water dropped on the circuit so Pirelli could test its wet weather compounds, though some teams ran sporadically when the conditions were most extreme.
