Auburn DB Tim Irvin plans ‘to pursue my career elsewhere’

Auburn defensive back Tim Irvin, who saw extensive time for the Tigers last season, surprisingly announced Tuesday night that he planned to transfer.

“It will be better for me to pursue my career elsewhere,” is how Irvin concluded the tweet.

Irvin – the nephew of NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin – played in 10 games, starting one, as a true freshman last season. He finished with 18 tackles and two pass breakups.

He saw a lot of time as the Tigers’ nickelback, and can play both corner and safety. He was expected to see most of his time as the nickel this fall; he has OK coverage skills and is solid against the run.
