Obama wants to nix tax break for stadium bonds

WASHINGTON — As the Atlanta Hawks could become the third local professional sports franchise to build a new stadium with the help of government bonds, the Obama administration is proposing to eliminate a key tax exemption for pro sports facilities.

The proposal, which faces an uphill battle in Congress, sparked a rare dissent from Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, usually a close ally of the president’s, as he begins talks with the city’s pro basketball franchise.
