Chris Ellis was acquired by the Braves along with Sean Newcomb in the Andrelton Simmons trade. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the 50th round out of high school, but he went to college, and he was chosen in the 3rd round in the 2014 draft by the Angels out of the University of Mississippi.
Ellis opened at the advanced rookie level Pioneer League after being drafted. He pitched in 9 games, starting 2 of them, racking up a total of 15 1/3 innings. He posted a 7.
