Braves News: B.J. Upton to give 1,000th hit bat, ball to mom

In Braves news today, the Atlanta Braves' B.J. Upton picked up his 1,000th hit on Saturday night and is celebrating by handing over the lucky bat and ball to his mother.

According to Carroll Rogers of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, "Upton, who reached the milestone Saturday night with an infield hit off Reds pitcher Mike Leake, planned to give them to her after Sunday’s game before the team left for Miami."

“She keeps all my stuff like that,” Upton said in Rogers' article posted on Sunday afternoon. “She’ll find a place for it. She’ll probably get it framed and put together.”

Earlier before Saturday's game, Braves' star Jason Heyward had predicted that Upton would pick up his 1,000th hit on a bloop single -- rather than anything solidly hit --

“It was very similar to a bloop but I’ll take it, and I’ll take the 1,000,” Upton stated. “…Any time you can stay around long enough to get 1,000 hits in the big leagues, that’s pretty cool.”

B.J's brother Justin enters play on Sunday just 87 hits away from joing B.J in the 1,000-hit club.
