2011 National League Rookie of the Year Standings

1. Craig Kimbrel, CP, Atlanta Braves     100.0 Points

The 23-year-old closer have been electric all season long. He leads all rookies in saves (40), ERA (1.70), and has an incredible 103 strikeouts in 63.2 innings. Kimbrel has not only been the top rookie reliever, he has arguably been among the elite of veteran relievers as well, leading the Majors in saves. With one more save, Kimbrel will be the sole record holder for most saves by a rookie in a season.

2. Freddie Freeman, 1B, Atlanta Braves     97.5 Points

Atlanta’s 21-year-old phenom has undoubtedly been the best hitter among National League freshman. He is gaining ground on Kimbrel quickly and has a more than probable shot at the rookie triple crown. He is first in batting average (.291), home runs (18), and RBI’s (64).

3. Danny Espinosa, SS, Washington Nationals     79.0 Points

Espinosa was an early favorite for the award, but has since cooled off. He is tied with Freeman in home runs (18), is second in RBI’s (57), and is first in stolen bases (13), but has a .231 batting average. His defense has been outstanding, but Espinosa will need to revert to his first half form if he hopes to take home the award.

4. Dillon Gee, SP, New York Mets     77.5 Points

Gee has been one of the more successful rookie pitchers so far in 2011. He leads the NL in wins (11) and innings pitched (127.2), but his strikeouts aren’t too high (85) and his ERA is underwhelming (4.37).

5. Darwin Barney, 2B, Chicago Cubs     75.0 Points

Barney has been an outstanding second baseman so far, giving the Cubs a potent middle infield along with sophomore shortstop Starlin Castro. Barney is second only to Freeman with 124 hits (.284 batting average), but doesn’t have the power numbers to win the award (2 home runs, 37 RBI’s).
